Comments / pictures

Queenie appeared on television shows, at state and county fairs, and at luxury hotels as the Republican mascot at political rallies. In Florida, Queenie learned to water ski, who in the late 1950s and early 1960s could boast of being the world's only water-skiing elephant.

"She was born in Siam, in 1952, then imported to the United States by Henry Trefflich (listed on your website as "Trefflichs Bird and Animal Co."). My folks and I went to Trefflich's Pet Store on Fulton St. in New York City, in March of 1953, to accept delivery of this very tiny, young, sweet baby elephant. My Dad, Bill Green, named her "Queenie". She was approximately six months old when we brought her home to our private zoo, The Rare Bird and Animal Farm, in Fairlee, VT. The rest of the "trail" of information/dates you have about my Queenie is correct, i.e., we sold her to Walt King, who, in turn, sold her to Circus Gatti, who then transferred her to Wild Adventures."
