2022-03-17: Thai authorities issued an arrest warrant for a wild elephant, which caused the death of a neighbor in February in Prachinburi province, 150 kilometers east of Bangkok.

The animal, 25, and known as Sidor Noke, remains “loose” in a farming area where “if it continues looking for food could attack other people again,” said Amnaj Muangpang, provincial National Parks Department director.

The elephant, named in the order as “Sidor Noke,” roamed out of the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary to tambon Khao Mai Kaew of Krabin Buri, possibly in search of food, which is common for elephants in the area. He raided plantations, damaging orchards and crops, and killed a 73 year old woman last month while she and a friend were picking vegetables and fruit.

Once the pachyderm is captured, a tracking device will be placed on it and “it will be sent to the Khao Ang Rue Nai sanctuary,” a protected area of about 1,000 square kilometers in the east of the country, Amnaj said.

2022-03-22: Wildlife officials have captured "Sidor Noke", a roaming bull elephant who has been raiding farms in Krabin Buri district and killed one villager and returned him to his home in Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. While on the run, the solitary elephant was blamed for the death of a 73-year-old woman foraging in the forest and caused extensive damage to orchards and field crops.
