| 2010: Pregnant by artificial insemination. Donna is on a permanent breeding loan to Disney from the Rio Grande Zoo. In 1997, one of Gopher Davenports three circus elephants, Heather, died of salmonella and heat stroke in the back of a transport trailer, while his other two elephants also tested positive for the disease. Donna and Irene were confiscated the next year by the City of Albuquerque in 1998 and given to the zoo. Subsequently, the King Royal Circus was fined by the USDA and their animal exhibit license revoked. Irene was later treated for tuberculosis. In 2003, the decision was made to move Donna, the sole African elephant in the zoos six elephant group, to the Disney Animal Kingdoms elephant breeding program. At 21 years old, she gave birth to her first calf, Nadirah, a result of natural breeding with Jackson four months after her arrival. She was the fourth calf to be born at the park - three sired by Jackson and a stillbirth sired by Bulwagi. Records about Donna was updated
