The North American Regional Studbook for the Asian Elephant names her as Al.

1904: Twenty elephants had been sold to Thompson and Dundee and there were also two bachelor elephants which were going to the largest menagerie in the world, that of Luna Park on Coney Island

Alice came to Bronx from Luna Park in Coney Island from where her keeper, Dick Richards, also came. She was, from all the literature, the most "human" connected elephant that the zoo ever had.
