Comments / pictures

2013: Gagana and Trinky, born on 05. 03. 2011 and 17. 03. 2011, at the Pinnawala Orphanage on August 08 and 09, on the grounds the pair was an offering to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens for public display

Zoo officials yesterday told ‘The Island’ that despite knowing that a two-and-half-year-old elephant, had been detected with TB and was separated from its mother at Pinnawela and brought to Dehiwela, none of the other ten elephants at the zoo had been tested to date.
"First and foremost, we are puzzled why Gagana who tested positive and Pinky were brought to the zoo from Pinnawala. It is common knowledge that babies were not separated from their mothers until at least they attain the age of three," a Zoo employee said.
