Elephant Research Foundation, first known as Elephant Interest Group (EIG), was a non-profit organization established by evolutionary biologist and elephant specialist, Professor Jeheskel Shoshani in 1977, and closed down in 2017. Shoshani was also the editor of its publication Elephant, and a very active contributor to the Elephant Listserver (elephant-@listserver.wineasy.se), created in 1995 by elephant consultant Dan Koehl.

Shoshani was also supporting the Elephant Listserver as well as assisting Koehl in creating the FAQ section of the website Elephant Encyclopedia, which is online since 1995 and located at https://www.elephant.se/elephant_faq.php
