With a fertile female elephant, the level of the hormone Progesterone go up and down in cycles, creating a curve in a digital diagramme. Some females who doesnt cycle, does not have this curve, their Progestrone level is the same, creating a flat line i na digital diagramme, why they are referred to as a Flatliner.
