Comments / picturesPat Guthrie and his brother, Ray, formed Guthrie Shows in 1970, changing the name to Derby State Shows in 1978 to reflect the brothers' Middlesboro, Ky., heritage. Ray Guthrie moved the operation to the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta, Ga., in 1978, while brother, Pat, entered the circus business with Jules & Beck Circus.
