Comments / picturesAustralia Zoo was opened by Bob and Lyn Irwin on 3 June 1970 under the name Beerwah Reptile and Fauna Park. Their son Steve had helped his parents since childhood to care for crocodiles and reptiles and to maintain the growing number of animals in the zoo.

1982: the park was renamed the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park and the area was doubled with the purchase of another 4 acres (1.6 ha).

1992: Bob and Lyn retired and moved to Rosedale, Queensland, while Steve and Terri changed the name of their now growing wildlife park to Australia Zoo.

1996: Australian wildlife expert Steve Irwin, came out of nowhere to become one of the world\'s most famous television stars.

2003: Three Asian female elephants, Bimbo, Sabu and Siam, were on loan from Craig Bullen Circus, arriving 2003.

Brenton Bullen lived at Australia Zoo with three of the elephants that he grew up with: Siam, Sabu and Bimbo.

2006: Following Steve\'s accidental death from a stingray, Terri became the new owner of the zoo.

2007: The Crocodile Hunter aired his final episode on September 4, 2007, a year after Irwin was killed as a stingray while filming a documentary Ocean\'s Deadliest his chest pierced. Irwin\'s legacy, however, was continued by repeated visits to his successful series as well as with the help of his family: wife Terri, daughter Bindi Sue and son Bob.

2013: Two of the Bullen elephants died during 2013.

2019: The last Bullen elephant were relocated back to the Circus shortly afterwards, but died in 2019.

In december 2019 three female Sumatran elephants arrived from Taman Safari Indonesia II, in Prigen on Java; Cristina , Megawati, Rafflesia, and Widya.
