Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, in Guwahati, Assam, India , was founded in 2004.


Comments / picturesThe Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located on the eastern fringe of Guwahati, Assam, India.

It comprises of a total area of 7864 hectares and a fauna of 44 Species of mammals and 250 Species of birds. The sanctuary has five Species of primates. Notable fauna include Clouded Leopard, Elephant, Wild Dog, Hoolock Gibbon, Sambar and Barking Deer among mammals; and Grater Adjutant Stork, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Kahlij Pheasant, Oriental pied Hornbill, Barn Owl, White Rumped Vultures and Hill Mynah among birds.

2004: Prior to 2004, the area was made up of 3 individual reserved forests, the Amchang reserve forest, South Amchang forest reserve and Khanapara reserve forest. The 3 forests were combined in 2004 by the Assam state government to form the sanctuary as it exists today.It is spread over in an area of 78.64 square kilometre
