There are 4 elephant keepers, and one volunteer assistant keeper.
Contactperson: Volunteer, Elephant House, Cincinnati Zoo, Tammy Crowthers gave 27 Aug 98 this information about the elephants:
Jati and Sabu were gifts from the Malaysian Government, given with the hope we would start a breeding program with them. This dream became reality with the birth of their son, Ganesh in March. Sabu is currently on breeding loan to the Louisville Zoo. With Jati busy being a mom, My Thai and Schottzie have been busy with "Elephant and Man". This is an educational show featuring elephant behaviors and conservation information, presented twice a day, 6 days per week during the summer. Construction will begin soon on new elephant yards and the existing building will be renovated. The first 3 animals are wildcaught and the keepers doubt the validity of the ages which were provided to us. MyThai was supposed to be 3 years but was not much larger than Ganesh is now at 5 months, so she may be younger. Jati and Sabu are believed to be older because of when they got new teeth and the size of Sabu's tusks when he arrived. Maybe Sabu doesn't even belong on our list, since he is not currently at our zoo.
