During the course of this week, we shared the progress of an ERP Translocation
project of two massive bulls from Phinda Private Game Reserve to @samara_karoo Private Game Reserve. The bulls joined a family Herd
which was introduced to Samara in October 2017 by ERP and the Samara Management Team in a joint operation. Yesterday, we introduced you to the older bull named Kahle and today we have the privilege of introducing you to Mvula, a truly handsome gentleman. Mvula, being 20 years old, is absolutely massive for his age and weighed in at 5.7 tonnes at capture. He is also known to be a very relaxed bull and many a Phinda guest enjoyed relaxed times with him during game drives. Mvula’s name means ‘Rain’ in isiZulu. This is in fact very ironic as there is a cow in the Samara family Herd
which is named Nomvula, which also means ‘Rain' in the Xhosa language. Penny Pistorius, our ERP monitor dedicated to the elephants at Samara, has been tracking Mvula who is exploring the riverine habitats of his new home. He is healthy and happy! We will keep all of our followers updated on how the jumbos settle in. At #ERP, the life of every elephant and rhino matters.
