† Jack is a dead Male ♂ Asian elephant, (Elephas maximus), who died at Amsterdam Artis Zoo, in Netherlands, of euthanised in 1849-08-08. Official death reason described as shot by Police after escaping from enclosure.

Jack was born wild .

Comments / pictures

Jack came from menagerie Cornelis van Aken and was the first elephant of Artis.

Difficault to handle, and destrying his enclosure and escaping on several occasions, he was finally shot during his last escape by a Policeman.

His skeleton is exhibited at the Groote museum.
