Babe (York, Chief) was born wild 1877.
Bought from Mr Hall by citizen of Toledo, Mr Sam Davis, and given to Toledo Zoo. Shortly after arrival babe killed two elephant keepers: 1914-06-14: Killed Michael Raddatz After this the bull was only worked by the Zoo director Lou Scherer, who kept the bull in free contact for over 31 years. Height: 3,20 meter, weight: 5,5 tons, for many years Babe was the largest asian elephant in Northamerica.
