The Indian Elephant Mary was listed under number 39 in the animal inventory that was submitted to citys municipality by the society Rigas zoologiskais darzs (Riga Zoological Garden) in 14th October, 1912. She was given as a present to the zoo by Mr. V. Zirins, the contractor who also supported the construction of Elephant House by donating 10 thousand roubles to the zoo.
