The elephant calf was rejected by its mother, a 14-year-old elephant named Maharani, shortly after its birth on Nov. 16. She developed an infection, and had also begun teething, which put added strain on her system. Unfortunately this calf died 07 Dec 2004. Contradictory records: The calf is listed as 'unnamed' in the North American Regional Studbook for the Asian Elephant.
