Chhouk was born wild 2011.
Chhouk, a bull elephant now 5 years old, was found in the Cambodian jungle in 2007, alone and close to death, his left front foot mangled by a poacher´s trap. When Chhouk had safely arrived at Phnom Tamao an intensive treatment regime was required to heal his injured foot. Initially it involved weekly treatments where the infected tissue was removed, and eventually he underwent x-rays to ensure there were no signs of bone fragments. The team concluded that Chhouk had likely lost his foot to a hunter’s snare. Chhouk has since then become a prothestis on left front foot.
