Comments / pictures

In April 2009, Pa Mai celebrated his eighteenth birthday with a party hosted by zoo staff. He was captured from the wild in the Yunnan province at seven years of age. The tusked male is kept alone, but plans are in the works to transfer him to the new Changshaw Ecological Zoo in summer 2009 to begin a potential breeding program. He weighs more than four tons and measures 3.3 meters.
