The European Elephant Keeper and Manager Association was established in 1997 to create a platform for elephant keepers and to represent their interests, to develop Europe-specific elephant management concepts, to improve reproductive efforts, to support training programs and continued education for elephant keepers, to promote the need for species preservation through research and to be active in the field of public education.

EEKMA publishes a quarterly newsletter: ELEPHANT JOURNAL that appears in both German and English language versions, and brings members elephant articles and photos from around Europe. First-hand accounts of ongoing studies, notices of meetings and workshops, and news from various elephant facilities] are all regular features.
