Comments / pictures1997: The number of elephants at the centre in Sumatra Seletan (also referred to as Palembang) increased from an estimated 40 in 1993 Suprahman et. al.,1993), to 60 in 1996 (PHPA SBKSDA Sumatra Seletan information leaflet) and approximately 100 in 1997 (Nazamrdin, pers. comm. ). Two elephants were transferred from this centre to logging operations in 1995/1996
