Circus Berny (Cirkus Berny), Norway, was founded in 1929.
The ancestor Friedrich Anton Barthel from Braunschweig in Germany, came to Norway in 1834. Their son Julius Barthel was born in Kristiania in 1868, and in 1881 had the son Rudolf Berny Barthel. Rudolf married Elvira Hoffmann from Sweden, and started Circus Berny in 1929. The WWII stopped the work with the circus, and Rudolf died 7 february 1944. Their daughter Liv married Ivar Løken, and they had the children Vivi, Rune og Ole Christian Löken.
But Elvira Berny restarted the circus after the war, and remarried in 1946 with Arthur Reinsch, who died in 1967, and Elvira Berny died in 1969.
Liv og Ivar Berny Løken took over the circis in 1968, and was touring until 1979. Since then the circus only did a jubilee tour in 1984, to celebrate the familys 150 years in circus business.
