Kamlapur elephant camp, located at Kamlapur, in Aheri Taluka, Maharashtra, India , was founded in 2011 and the first elephant arrived in 2011. The last elephant left in 2022.

Comments / picturesAn elephant camp was established around 50 years ago in Sironcha taluka, as a logging camp. Kamlapur elephant camp was set up in 2011 after the decade-old teak log transport by elephants had to stopped due to the Naxal menace. Since then, the elephants are being maintained at a cost of Rs 5 lakh annually.

2018-12-18: The camp had a total of eight elephants, including Matriarch Basanti, who is aged around 55 and alpha male Ajit (23). A female elephant calf 'Saee' was born on Tuesday to Rani and Ajit. These elephants have been kept at the camp ever since their use for timber logging was stopped. Saee\'s birth has taken the numbers to nine.

2021: There used to be 10 elephants in Kamlapur camp till last year, now the number have dropped to 7.
