1977: elephant keeper Gerd Thorin attacked by Tabu. when Thorin was cleaning outside enclosure. Pushed him down on the ground, and tried unsuccessfully to gore him with the tusks and squeeze him, but since the ground was frozen, the tusk could not enter deep enough into the earth. Gerd Thorin Survived. Thorin saved himself by hitting the elephants eye with a fork, which made the elephant stop, until other keepers came to help and chased away the elephant. Thorin was hospitalized with broken ribs.
