Nill was born * 1825-02-21 in Germany dead 1894-05-20 , in Germany .

A master carpenter by trade, he opened Nills Tiergarten in 1871 on his private property in Stuttgart.

He was known for building many of the animal enclosures himself and achieved international recognition for breeding exotic Species like Somali ostriches and bear hybrids.

He managed the zoo until 1892, establishing it as a major regional attraction that drew up to 20,000 visitors on a single Sunday.

The son of Johannes, Adolf Nill, took over as director in 1892. He was a trained veterinarian who grew up working in the family business.

In the Zooloogical Gardens at Stuttgart, which are now unfortunately closed, some very interesting hybrids were bred by Herr Nill. These were a cross between the brown bear and the polar bear
