Hermann Göring was a high-ranking Nazi leader notorious for his extravagant lifestyle, which famously included keeping pet lion cubs such as Mucki and Cäsar. He frequently sourced these Animals from zoo directors and maintained connections with elite trainers to manage his private menagerie.

Göring raised at least seven lion cubs at his lavish estates, Carinhall and Obersalzberg. He often received these as gifts from zoo directors (such as Dr. Gebbing of the Leipzig Zoo) and showcased them to visiting dignitaries like Benito Mussolini.

I put on tails and was just able to catch an aeroplane, and for the first time in my life saw our big top from the air. I accompanied the Prime Minister, who seemed most forthcoming, through the menagerie. This tour of inspection rather dragged out, and the Berlin folk waiting in the circus tent otherwise folk, of course, so well known for their restraint suddenly began chanting: 'Come on, Hermann, we want to begin. ' At that time he was still known simply as Göring. Later, however, when the bombs had begun to fall on Berlin, he wanted to be known as Meier.
