Basil Steyn is owner of Sondelani Game Lodge in West Nicholson and the company Elephant Experience in Victoria Falls, where 15 elephants which were trained 2002-2006 by Dan Koehl at Sondelani, are operated for tourist rides. Seven elephants from this heard were walked over the bridge to Zambia, and were located at Mukuni Big 5 Safaris in Livingstone, since 2024 back in Vic Falls.

Since Mr Steyn started to keep and train captive african elephants, he succeded to get at least six births from his elephants, which probably is a record by a privat african elephant owner.
