In March 1974, Paramounts King Dominion received two Asian elephants, Hugo and Ellie. The male and female were sold to the Jacksonville Zoo twenty three months later. Hugo died in September 1978, whereas Ellie, other than a successful fifteen month breeding loan to Syracuse, would remain in Jacksonville until being sold to the St. Louis Zoo in July 2001 with her daughter Rani. 2012-08-01: Pregnant; Ellie is due to deliver in the spring of 2013. 2013-04-26: a female Asian elephant was born to 42-year-old Ellie and 20-year-old Raja around 11 p.m. on Friday, April 26.
