Vergel Safari Park, located at Marina Alta, in Vergel, Spain , was founded in 1977. The last elephant left in 2011. Vergel Safari Park closed down in 2010.
One of Spain’s pioneering zoological parks, the Vergel Safari Park in the Marina Alta, Alicante, closed its doors on Friday after 33 years. Inside a Group of workers and vets will continue to work for at least five months until the 460 animals which live in semi-freedom inside are found new homes. The closure comes because of purely economic reasons, with the park hit by competition of late from nearby sites of Terra Natura in Benidorm and Biopark in Valencia. Those responsible have given an undertaking that none of the animals will end up in a circus.
