1997: There were l3 elephants at the centre in Kerinci Seblat in 1993 (Suprahman et. al.,1993) which increased to 57 in 1997. ... Staff from WWF-Indonesia report that out of a group of seven elephants sent to the Kerinci Seblat centre, only two survive, the others it is thought died from parasitic infestations, diarrhoea and lung infections (Ron Lilley, pers.comm.).
