The founder of Circus Kludsky was Antonín Kludský (1826-1895) who also started the zoo at Brno, CZ, as a winter quarters for circus animals.

Antonín Kludský (born 1826) made his way from village to village like many similar itinerant jugglers of the time with a few pimps and acrobatics on a rope. Later, he gradually acquired a monkey and a parrot, and eventually other animals, and in 1864 he fulfilled his dream by buying his first female elephant.

In 1874, Gottlieb Kreutzberg was killed by his tigers, and the famous Kreutsberg Menagerie of Leipzig was sold to Antonin Kludsky. The so-formed Kludský menagerie became the Czech Kingdom’s largest (as reflected by contemporary posters).

Antonín Kludský had 21 sons! The oldest son Anton was killed by a lion in 1891, and so the second son Karel Kludsky senior (1864-1927) took over the Kludský menagerie and turned it into a Circus in 1902.
