Married to Herta Cuneo for more than four decades, he is survived by his son, Stefan, granddaughter, Catherine, and nieces and nephews Katharine White, Jamie Middleton, William Browning and John Browning.

The Cuneo family of Vernon Hills left a large footprint on Lake County and Chicago. Born into the family of millionaire John Sr. and his wife Julia, John Jr. and his sister, Consuela, inherited the estate. Some of their land was sold to make way for Hawthorn Mall and subdivisions, but the ornate Cuneo Museum and Gardens was donated to Loyola University.
