The three elephants at Roger Williams Park Zoo were brought to America together in 1988 from Zimbabwe by Frank Thompson. In June 1988, Allen Campbell took posession of the females and kept them with several other Africans until they arrived permanently at the Rhode Island zoo in October 1990. During that time period, Ginny stayed with Campbell the entire duration, whereas Alice spent the 21 of the 27 months at Miami MetroZoo and Kate spent 11 months at Evansville and four in Miami.
