Intan is a living Female ♀ Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) , located at the Singapore Zoo, in Singapore.
Intan arrived in 2005-03-16 to the Singapore Zoo, relocated from the Taman Safari Indonesia (Bogor Zoo), in Indonesia.
Intan lives together with 4 other elephants at the Singapore Zoo:
Intan was born captive-born 1995 at Taman Safari Indonesia (Bogor Zoo).
After the final sale of a five year old captive born male Sumatran elephant to Germany, Sang Raja was crate trained for weeks before his twenty hour flight to the Koln zoo in September 2004. In March 2005 the Singapore Zoo replaced him with two ten year old, captive born female Sumatran elephants Intan and Aprila. The zoo's total number of elephants was brought to five. Contradictory records: According to a press release from Taman Safari Indonesia, the Sumatran elephant Intan gave birth in May 2006. It was the sixteenth birth of elephants at the Taman Safari Indonesia. However, according to a press release from the Singapore Zoo, Intan and Aprila both arrived at the Singapore Zoo in March 2005.
