1910: A wire from Dixon, Mo., under date of April 28, states that James Hilderbrand, aged forty-five, of Lancaster, Mo., elephant trainer with the Kit Carson Buffalo Ranch Wild West Show, while endeavoring to put "Monte," the show's smallest elephant, into a car on that day, was killed by the animal.
