1910: May 24, 1910, Flora B. Cameron, wife of the late William Cameron, announced that she was donating all 125 acres (51 ha) of the land to the city of Waco. The park was dedicated on May 27, 1910, and named in memory of Waco philanthropist and lumber baron William Cameron. (Wikipedia)
2007-10-00: In October 2007, Zoe was transferred to the Kansas City Zoo under breeding loan arrangements, a Missouri zoo which held the largest herd of African elephants within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Tanya was transferred to the Cameron Park Zoo from Abilene Zoo, to replace Zoe.
2020-10-06: Tanya, an African elephant who lived in Cameron Park Zoo, died at the age of 40 after “exhaustive efforts by the Zoo’s veterinarian and animal care staff,” the zoo announced Monday. A preliminary necropsy revealed signs of a yet-unidentified disease that affected the circulatory system, heart, lungs and brain.
