2011-07-08: Birth of calf RE
In February 2007, eleven year old Rani gave birth to her first calf, Jade. A first time mother, she did not accept the newborn, leading to the the calf being handraised by staff.

In January 2010, the St. Louis Zoo announced that Rani was pregant for a second time, bred naturally by the zoo's breeding bull Raja. She gave birth to the calf in summer 2011 and displayed protect mother instincts.
