Fortuné Lalanne, a remarkable horse acrobat, appreciated for his work in reverse, was on the bill at the Cirque National des Champs Elysées in Paris in September 1844. He was seen again in Brussels in 1853 at the Théâtre du Cirque under the direction of Louis Dejean. He was then hired, for several years, at Cirque National, owned by Claude Loyal.

Fortuné Lalanne, in 1855, joined forces with Théodore Rancy and rented the Cirque de Saint-Sever in Rouen from Madame Lemyre, on December 15 to January 28, 1856.
