After two days of labor, it was discovered that the fetus was dead, and still not in the birth channel. The decision was made to perform a cesarean section in order to remove the dead calf. The animal was conceived via Artificial insemination with "sperm samples brought in thermos bottles from male elephants at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida -- and from other zoos and animal parks in Florida, Arkansas and Pennsylvania."
